Lemon, Peppermint, Lavender, Frankincense and Geranium Essential Oil
A relaxed stress-free mother, support team and environment can make all the difference for a positive birth experience, including a shorter, more comfortable labour for the mother. Diffusing essential oils is an indirect, subtle environment enhancer, which can quickly decrease unpleasant emotional experiences, resulting in relaxed muscles, slower breathing and vital signs improvement.
Lemon – Offers clarity and concentration. Eases fear, calms anxiety and strengthens resolve. Decreases nausea. Physically refreshing and emotionally uplifting during a long labour.
Peppermint – Provides focus and improves concentration. Decreases nausea and eases headache and back pain. Energises and relieves mental fatigue, which is refreshing during a long labour.
Lavender – Reduces fear and anxiety and neutralises sensory overload. When absorbed through breathing it can decrease cortisol secretion and increase serotonin, providing a calm, strong nervous system.
Frankincense – Centring and grounding oil that slows and calms anxiety, panic and hysteria in labour. Revitalises both mind and body from mental and physical exhaustion. Eases labour pain.
Geranium – Uplifting effect, frees the mind of negative thoughts. Simultaneously calms and energises through its balancing actions, therefore supporting a more relaxed labour. Diffusion of this beautiful oil decreases pain in early labour and is excellent for exhaustion. Geranium freshens the room and uplifts the labouring mother and her support team.
Diligent research has been conducted whilst curating the LABOUR – BIRTHING BLEND to ensure safety to the birthing mother. The essential oils that have been selected for both the diffuser and massage blend are on the list of clinically evidence-based essential oils for labour and delivery and are approved by the National Association For Holistic Aromatherapy. Dilutions have been kept to 1-2%, as the body always remains in control with low doses of essential oils and with the sense of smell heightened in pregnancy, it is important not to overwhelm the labouring woman.
